Along with that shift, came a bigger feeling of disconnect with my current branding. I didn’t feel like it represented me well anymore. I couldn’t land on packaging, or labels, or capture the essence of what I wanted to convey where cakes were concerned.⁠

My style is definitely more romantic and elegant, and my branding didn’t speak to that.⁠
⁠
While it served me well for years, it was time to let go and jump boldly into a new direction. One that connected to the heart of my business and cake design. One that spoke softly but left an impression.⁠

I was inspired by my previous photo shoot, it was as if all of a sudden everything that was floating around in my mind came together. I could clearly see it. So I created a vision board. ⁠

The place where all great ideas begin. I needed to be able to clearly express my vision to someone else. ⁠

In 2024 I felt a shift happening. I entered the year full of possibility and made the decision to do more markets, try a storefront pop up, try more collabs, all the things! Not knowing where this would take me. ⁠

As I have shared before, nothing went exactly as I expected. 2024 as a whole was challenging for small business, so I tried to look at everything as a lesson. What was unexpected was the growth I saw in the area of custom cakes. Which was incredible! My absolute fav part of everything I do is making custom cakes, a close second would be teaching.⁠

Maybe everything I did contributed to that, maybe nothing did! Who really knows, but as I sought clarity through the year, the answers all started to point in the same direction.⁠

My passion for custom cake decorating was thriving. I felt like the more I did, the more my style became evident. The path which I wanted to go in was becoming clearer.⁠

2024 has taught me a lot. The biggest lesson is to hold your plans loosely. Nothing this year went the way I thought they would. Things I thought would do well, didn’t, and areas that grew were unexpected. I read a book that made me start looking at things differently. (10X is easier than 2x)⁠
⁠
I have always had a big dream. But to make big dreams reality, you have to be willing to make great sacrifice. Only 20% of what you are doing right now will move you towards accomplishing your dreams.⁠
⁠
So what does that mean? Well, you have to be willing to let go of the 80%. I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on that and what that looks like in my business. It’s not the kind of leap you take without being strategic. It’s taken a while for me to get clarity. I have had moments where I felt like a pinball, going in one direction but being bumped into a new direction. Each time learning and evaluating, all to realize that each redirection has been God course correcting. ⁠
⁠
I’m stepping into 2025 with more clarity. Not a new dream, but a more refined one! And a clearer path in how I’m going to get there! Is it scary? You bet! Letting go of things that you have been doing for awhile is scary! But without making room for more, more will never come! ⁠

I like to think she energetically supported me! However we met, I’m so glad we did!

My Christmas shoot was magic! When I first received my proofs, I shared a few with my daughter. She said “mom! If people ask me what my Christmas was like growing up, I’d show them these pictures!” Wiping tears from my eyes, I was elated knowing that these were more than pictures, they encapsulated the feeling of Christmas to me. That’s the magic of a photographer who is able to connect with a vision, can deliver.
