Your guests won’t remember your charger plates.

At least not the way you think they will.

They probably won’t leave your wedding talking about the exact shade of linen you chose, the style of flatware, or whether your candles were tapered or pillar.

But they will remember how the evening felt.

There’s a concept in psychology called the Peak-End Rule. It suggests that people tend to remember experiences based on the emotional high points and how the experience ended—not every detail in between.

That’s why guests remember:

The speech that made them laugh until they cried.

The conversation they had with an old friend.

The way the room glowed by candlelight.

The stunning cake everyone gathered around.

The dessert they couldn’t stop talking about.

The feeling of not wanting the evening to end.

This isn’t to say details don’t matter.

They absolutely do.

Beautiful details help create atmosphere. They set the stage. They communicate care and intention.

But the details themselves aren’t usually what guests remember.

The details create the conditions for a feeling.

And feelings are what become memories.

I loved this gender reveal idea so much. The stork is holding a tiny bundle that marks the reveal spot and instead of cutting into the cake traditionally, the parents dig into that little bundle on top together to discover the gender inside 🥹

Such a simple but thoughtful way to turn dessert into a memory and create a moment everyone gathers around for 🥰 These are the kinds of details I love most, the ones that make a celebration feel personal, playful, and truly unforgettable!

A Ralph Lauren inspired cake… recreated entirely in buttercream 🧸 💙

Not every design translates exactly from fondant to buttercream and I’ll always be honest about that.

A client recently reached out about a Ralph Lauren inspired baby shower cake originally designed in fondant. While there were elements I knew I could recreate beautifully, there were also details that simply wouldn’t translate the same way in buttercream.

So rather than overpromise, I politely declined to replicate it exactly.

But I couldn’t stop thinking about the design…

Because this is one of my favorite parts of buttercream artistry — taking inspiration and reimagining it through texture, movement, softness, and flavor while still holding onto that refined, editorial feel.

While fondant absolutely has its place, it’s never been my medium of choice. I’m drawn to the softness and natural finish buttercream brings, and the fact that guests actually enjoy eating it matters just as much to me as the visual design itself.

So naturally… I created my own interpretation. And honestly? I think Ralph Lauren would approve ✨

Grad season is here 🎓✨

One of my favourite things about graduation celebrations is how personal they can be — meaningful details, favourite colours, dessert tables made for gathering, and cakes designed to celebrate everything your grad has worked so hard for after years of studying, growing, and pushing through.

Wedding cakes I immediately say no to and why ⬇️

✨ Naked cakes
They tend to dry out quickly, and I don’t believe in relying on sugar syrup to compensate for that. Texture and flavour should stand on their own!

✨ Fondant-covered cakes
I don’t work with fondant as a finish. It’s not my medium of choice, and more often than not, it gets peeled off rather than enjoyed.

✨ 3D sculpted designs
These typically require fondant to execute properly, which brings us back to the above.

Beyond specific styles, I stay within what I know I do best. I specialize in refined buttercream designs with a romantic, editorial feel, so I don’t take on heavily themed or stylistically mismatched cakes that wouldn’t reflect that.

When you’re working from a Pinterest board, it’s often a collection of everything you love, not a fully defined direction. And when there’s limited information to go off of, it becomes about reading between the lines and finding what’s consistent.

In this case, the direction revealed itself later through one detail — the bouquet. From there, everything simplified. The florals, the placement, the overall feel.
